I became the 12th president of Furukawa Electric following my appointment at a meeting of the Board of Directors held after the General Shareholder's Meeting on June 26, 2008.
To achieve sustainable growth and development, in an operating environment experiencing rapid change, the former president Hiroshi Ishihara and I have established the present medium-term business plan, called “Innovations 09”. I am determined to focus on five key items, described below.

Furukawa Electric Europe Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Furukawa Electric Company of Japan and was established in London in 1998 in order to provide a sales and service centre with responsibility for the European, African and Middle Eastern Markets.
The company is organised by product group, having sales divisions handling Automotive, Electronic components, Optical components as well as an Interconnectivity Division specialising in Fusion Splicers & MT Connectors.
Furukawa Electric is committed to research & development and has throughout its history been in the forefront of technological innovation.
It is our aim to be the market leader in Europe, Russia & CIS, Africa and the Middle East in each specialist product field and we aim to achieve this by having the best products on the market; by having the best technical & commercial support and by having the best distribution channels available.
Furukawa Electric has been developing continually, in line with Japan's fundamental industrial technologies, for more than a century since its establishment. The technical revolution that began with electric wires and cables and nonferrous metals has provided various new technologies to meet the needs of the times, leading to modern cutting edge technologies.
Faced with a new era, we are determined to continue developing new possiblities based on our technologies and creativity in order to respond to the mature multimedia-orientated and advanced information-orientated society in which people live more comfortable and safer lives.
